The legislative framework of Ukraine concerning the protection of children generally meets international standards in this area, First Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Economic Development and Trade Andriy Kliuyev was speaking at the International Conference "Combating violence against children: from isolated actions to integrated strategies" in Kyiv Tuesday, UKRINFORM reported.

"Ukraine has elaborated a legislative framework to protect children against all forms of violence, which generally meets international standards in this area, but a practical mechanism to counter various forms of violence against children often turns out to be ineffective because it does not provide adequate partnership between all those responsible for violence prevention," he said. Kliuyev added that the protection of children requires a personal approach, taking into account individual characteristics.

The official also stressed that the problem of violence against children is common to all countries, and therefore it can only be overcome through joint efforts. In this context, Ukraine should take advantage of international experience. "In our state we study the recommendations of the Council of Europe on these issues, including on integrated approaches of national campaigns on specific aspects of children rights violations," Kliuyev said.
