Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko has referred to today's trial in the Pechersk District Court of Kyiv as a farce.

"As we expected, the court turned into a face. This is a solid conclusion. The court, just like our Prosecutor General’s Office, is engaged in a farce and political repression because it is a department of the Presidential Administration," Yulia Tymoshenko told journalists today after walking out of the courtroom.

Yulia Tymoshenko recalled that at the beginning of the trial the judge tried to avoid publicity by not allowing representatives of the media into the courtroom, and after the break began reading every page of the case materials.

"The judge literally began to read the entire case. As of today, it’s 1150 pages long. After two hours she read only 80 pages. It is impossible to sit in this room for hours listening to the case being reread, and in doing so the judge showed that this trial is absurd. Who knows how long it will take her to read 1150 pages aloud," Yulia Tymoshenko said, explaining why she left the courtroom, Tymoshenko's official website reports.

"This isn’t my first trial, and I know what is traditionally done: they announce the list of materials in the case, and if the parties want to hear a certain document, it is announced. But never is the entire case read page by page. They want to simply starve the media, deputies and public, and turn the proceedings into a farce," she said.

Her defender, Serhiy Vlasenko, will be present at the proceedings. Yulia Tymoshenko said she plans to return to the courtroom for the second stage of the trial, when the parties will provide their explanations to the materials that were the basis for the criminal case opened against her.
