Today we celebrate a very important event in our history. 66 years
ago the Ukrainian nation, side by side with other nations of Europe and
the world, won Victory over the most terrible enemy of mankind – the
Nazism. The ghost of death and slavery was countered by heroism and
sacrifice of millions of people, their desire for freedom, peace and
happiness. This was emphasized by President Viktor Yanukovych in his speech during celebrations dedicated to the 66th anniversary of the Great Victory on the Independence Square in Kyiv.
We celebrate it and reaffirm our commitment to the values of human life and equality, peaceful coexistence, cooperation and prosperity of all nations," he said.
The president assured that the state would provide a decent answer to those who want to bask in a bloody fire. The course on development of civil nation, deepening of international understanding and intercultural dialogue within the country, the course to ensure good neighborly relations and mutually beneficial partnership in the foreign policy will be followed accurately."This is our common duty to our fathers-heroes. The victory of our parents encourages us to work for the present and future. To create a country, which future generations and we would both be proud of. To develop democracy. To build a modern, strong economy that will work for the benefit of the society.
To create advanced science and education, modern healthcare system and social protection. To create humanistic culture. To develop our armed forces – these are the tasks we pursue and implement.
I am convinced that these goals unite the whole Ukrainian society. We must remember: a very high price was paid for our quiet, peaceful life, hope for the future. We must be worthy of these sacrifices.
Congratulations, dear compatriots!" Yanukovych concluded.
