The Government consistently works to improve performance and increase productivity in agriculture, Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov stressed at a meeting with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Thomas Mirow.

Mykola Azarov said that the Government considers producing 60 million tons of grain per year as a guideline for Ukraine in the coming years.

The Head of Government noted that Ukraine had already increased planting area to 500 hectares compared with last year, and had raised crops of grain and forage crops by reducing technical crops by one million hectares.

Mykola Azarov noted that in Ukraine there are about seven million hectares of fields not occupied by crops, but this areas will be developed in the coming years.

In turn, EBRD President Thomas Mirow confirmed the willingness of the bank to invest in increasing grain yield and efficiency of agricultural production in Ukraine.
