President: Olympic Hope 2022 is a priority national project

Concluding today’s meeting of the Regional Committee on Economic Reforms in Lviv region, President Viktor Yanukovych stressed that "Olympic Hope 2022” is a priority national project for Ukraine. 

President Yanukovych said that by 2014, during the implementation of its first stage, sports infrastructure needed for the approval of Ukraine’s bid to host the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games of 2022 must be prepared. By 2022, during the second stage, the preparation of this infrastructure must be completed. 

"I will instruct the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine today to develop and approve a state target program of tourist infrastructure development for 2011-2022,” he said." 

Viktor Yanukovych stressed the importance of developing programs to attract investment into the construction of sports, tourist and transport infrastructure. 

The President instructed to develop master plans and feasibility studies of the national projects to develop sports and related infrastructure, as well as other infrastructure facilities. 

He also instructed the state authorities and the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine to: 

- prepare a list of sports facilities and plans of their restoration; 

- elaborate a plan of transport routes ; 

- identify places for accommodation of guests and athletes with feasible financial and economic requirements in line with international standards; 

- identify specific terms for Winter Olympic and Paralympic sports competitions. 

"We are working on all directions with the International Olympic Committee, and already have a working plan," Viktor Yanukovych stressed. 

He noted that during the implementation of the program, the executive authorities and local governments must ensure the efficiency of use of local resources and that for the western regions of Ukraine, "Olympic Hope 2022” national project must become an integral part of their social-economic development strategy. 

Viktor Yanukovych reminded that successful Euro 2012 will be a necessary precondition for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Ukraine. He warned that the leaders involved in carrying out the task are personally responsible for it.
