Ukraine, like the European Union, is planning to conduct stress tests at its nuclear power plants, and additional checks in the country should begin this summer, the State Inspectorate for Nuclear Regulation has reported, according to UKRINFORM.
All of the four nuclear power plants operating in Ukraine will be tested regarding their capability to withstand earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes and floods, Chief Inspector for Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Ukraine Mykhailo Hashev said.
He said that the imitation of these disasters at Ukrainian nuclear power plants would not be done and that computer simulation would be used.
In the near future, the IAEA should finalize the drafting of the methodology for conducting stress tests at all nuclear power plants in the world.
