President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych demands regional governors to
prevent the growth of wage arrears, he said at a meeting of the
Council of Regions, presidential press office reported.
The President stressed that the situation
of wage arrears is one of the indicators of government’s effectiveness
in the regions.
"We must seriously analyze, where do these
debts come from and what must be done about them. We must not sit and
wait until the situation resolves itself. We must improve it ourselves,"
he said, addressing regional governors present at the meeting.
"I address all the officials: Use your powers today and do not allow
the increase of salary arrears. During the time of growing prices it is
absolutely unacceptable," Viktor Yanukovych said.
The
President also drew attention to the problem of citizens’ debts for
utility services growing. "Please, analyze what is going on and what can
be done about it," Viktor Yanukovych said.
The President
added that during the previous and current year these debts have
increased by 20% or 2.2 billion UAH, adding that this negative dynamics
has been observed in almost all regions of Ukraine.
