Batkivshchyna Party leader Yulia Tymoshenko will discuss the situation in Ukraine and ways to preserve the country’s European perspective during her upcoming meetings at the European People’s Party Summit in Brussels.

"I think it’s very important for leaders of the European Union to understand how difficult the situation is in Ukraine and that it is better not to wait until the current president starts shooting at peaceful demonstrators, because today, unfortunately, people in Ukraine have been driven to despair," Yulia Tymoshenko told journalists yesterday before leaving for Brussels.

Yulia Tymoshenko believes that protecting Ukraine’s European perspective is an issue not only for the opposition, but also civil society. "This is a matter for all citizens of Ukraine and that is why I’d like to bring together politicians, civil society, citizens of Ukraine and our trusted friends in the European Union to help preserve Ukraine’s European perspective," she said.

"A year ago during the presidential elections, Ukraine, unfortunately, got on the wrong train heading in the opposite direction from true democratic European values. My goal is to stop this training from moving in the reverse direction. I think there is no doubt in anyone’s mind that an authoritarian regime is being built rapidly in Ukraine. My goal during this trip is to do everything I can to stop this process and return Ukraine to a European perspective," she added.
