President Viktor Yanukovych has had a telephone conversation with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso. During the conversation, Jose Manuel Barroso has confirmed his intention to visit Kyiv on April 18-19, 2011. 

Viktor Yanukovych and Jose Manuel Barroso have agreed to conduct a bilateral meeting on April 18 to discuss the EU-Ukraine relations. 

On April 19, Jose Manuel Barroso will attend the Summit on Safe and Innovative Use of Nuclear Energy in Kyiv. 

During the talks, the European Commission President has confirmed that the EU would continue supporting the transformation of Chernobyl NPP into an ecologically safe system. 

During the meeting the sides have discussed bilateral cooperation between Ukraine and the EU, particularly the Association Agreement and Free Trade Zone negotiations. 

They have also discussed improvement of electoral legislation in Ukraine. 

Viktor Yanukovych noted that elaboration of the new Electoral Code involves civil society, political parties, and national and international experts in this area. 

"This process is open and transparent to the society," he said. 

According to the President of Ukraine, the bill being prepared by a working group will be submitted for examination of the Venice Commission.
