Citizens understand the need for structural reforms in Ukraine, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov told the Test for the Government television show.

"People understand that it is inevitable, that it is necessary, that as a result it will improve their lives," the prime minister stressed, referring, in particular, to pension reform, UKRINFORM reported.

In this context, the prime minister said the pension reform in Ukraine will introduce European standards, enable citizens to get a decent pension. "That will not happen in a year, but in 10 years, when the pension reform fully works, it will happen," he emphasized.

Azarov warned against expectations that the reforms will bring quick results, for transformations are destined for years. He cited the example of tax reform that will significantly simplify doing business in Ukraine. "Two months have just passed. Companies even have not paid income taxes, because it is done at the end of the quarter. Therefore, in my opinion, it is totally wrong and pointless to talk about some important results of the reform designed for decades. Many of the rules have not yet started working," the prime minister added.

According to him, when the first quarter ends, the companies will have a real opportunity to channel money for production modernization and wage increases, but not for tax payment. Then the business will really feel what the tax code has given to every company, Azarov believes.

The Ukrainian prime minister at the same time stressed the urgency of reforms. "I believe our country will not have another time and another opportunity. Delaying the implementation of reforms could make us solving these problems on a much more sophisticated level, with a much more serious negative consequences," the head of government underscored.
