On the occasion of the 197th anniversary of birth of Taras Shevchenko, government officials, parliamentarians, representatives of Kyiv government took part in the events to celebrate the date arranged in Kaniv. 

Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov, heads of local authorities, representatives of literary and artistic community and the public, Deputy Chief of Staff at the Presidential Administration of Ukraine Hanna Herman also took part part in the ceremony of laying flowers on the grave of the great poet, located in the Shevchenko National Reserve in Kaniv. 

"Today, we are symbolically verifying ours present life and work with the moral and intellectual authority of Shevchenko, his testament," the prime minister said.

Azarov added that on the occasion of the 197th anniversary workers of culture will be awarded the National Shevchenko Prize.

After the ceremony, the distinguished guests have visited the museum of Taras Shevchenko.
