Russia's upper house of parliament ratified on Wednesday a government agreement with Ukraine on the protection of rocket and space technology, RIA Novosti reported.

The agreement, signed in June 2009, creates a legal framework for further cooperation between the Russian and Ukrainian space industries in protecting rockets and related technologies during mutual exports.

The document stipulates that the rockets are guarded by the exporter on the importer's territory and that government agencies would not interfere without reason into the use of the items.

Russia's lower house of parliament ratified the agreement last month. It now has to be signed into law by the president.
