President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych believes reforming the system of pension insurance and social support is one of the priority tasks, he said today, speaking at the meeting of the Committee on Economic Reforms, presidential press office reported.

"It is good that the bill on pension reform is on public discussion ... We cannot avoid political speculations in that case, so we have to come out to people to make some explanation and convincing. There is no other way to success here," the President said.

"I believe that average pension raise to at least 1,380 UAH by the end of this year is realistic. Otherwise, the talk about balancing the Pension Fund or transition to the new system makes no sense. Pensioners cannot wait: as soon as economic indicators allow us, we should raise the pension," Viktor Yanukovych said.

At the same time, according to the President, real dependence of pensions on earnings and insurance record of a pensioner must be ensured.

"Those, who have been working more, will get more," Viktor Yanukovych said.

The President added that one of the key requirements to reforming the social security system is targeting the aid. It must be provided to those, who need it the most.
