Our relationship with the U.S. is undoubtedly an important factor in our own internal development, and here we need a relationship based on understanding what is happening in Ukraine and where we could cooperate for further development, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostiantyn Hryshchenko said in Washington, speaking at the Carnegie Endowment, UKRINFORM reports.

The Ukrainian minister recalled the words of U.S. President Barack Obama from his current message to the nation: each country from time to time should rethink what is happening to it. It is through such a phase, the foreign minister believes, the Ukrainian state is coming today. Ukraine is reconsidering itself, he said.

This is the beginning of deeper reforms in the socio-economic, territorial-administrative, judicial, defense, financial, educational, medical and pension fields.

But, Kostiantyn Hryshchenko assured, this rethinking does not pertain to democracy, human rights and freedom of speech. These core values have remained unchanged for the country.

Kostiantyn Hryshchenko is on a visit to the United States, where he is attending the Third Session of Ukrainian-American Commission on Strategic Partnership.
