President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek believes the current Ukrainian government is selectively applying the law.

"Right now in Ukraine there is selective use of the criminal justice system by the government. This applies to the case against you. This is unacceptable in a democratic country. I’m sorry that you were not allowed to visit Brussels," Jerzy Buzek told Yulia Tymoshenko in a phone call initiated by him, Tymoshenko's official website reports.

Yulia Tymoshenko thanked the President of the European Parliament for supporting democracy in Ukraine and its people’s European aspirations, and for supporting her personally.

"In Ukraine there is erosion of democracy, and it is getting deeper. I and the party I lead are working hard so that Ukraine stays on a path of democracy and European integration. For us it is very important what you personally and the European Parliament along with other EU institutions are doing for Ukraine to preserve its European prospects," she said.

Jerzy Buzek reiterated his invitation to Yulia Tymoshenko to visit Brussels.
