UAH 70 million (USD 1/UAH 7.96) has been allocated in the state budget 2011 to ensure protection of children's rights, Family, Youth and Sports Minister Ravil Safiullin has said. According to him, in the previous year UAH 17 million out of the funds provided by the budget was used for those purposes.

According to National radio, Safiullin reminded that the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, joined by Ukraine in 1991, is a part of the national legislation, therefore, it is necessary to carry out a complex of measures in Ukraine to implement its provisions into life. The funds, he noted, should be allocated for realization of the national program "National Action Plan Regarding Realization of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child" for a period till 2016.

"The National Plan shows readiness of our party to fulfillment of all the provisions of the UN Convention for a period till 2016," the Minister noted. He added that fulfillment of the national plan will help orphaned children and children without custody to realize their rights for upbringing in the family, disabled children - to realize their right for getting education, irrespective of the state of their health and the place of their location, HIV-infected children - to get highly qualified help, and parents - consultations at maternity homes.

According to Safiullin, the program provides for carrying out a number of measures for reduction of the number of dead-born children by 20% and fatal cases at the age of up to five years - by one third.

On November 20, 1989, the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child. This day, the Day of Joint Actions in the Interests of Children is traditionally marked in Ukraine.
