President Viktor Yanukovych of Ukraine has charged the government with taking during a month decisions necessary to organize and conduct demarcation of the border between Ukraine and Russia. The corresponding presidential decree was published on his official website.

The Government is also entrusted with financing activities related to demarcation of the border, UKRINFORM reported.

In addition, by his decree, Yanukovych created a Ukrainian delegation to the joint Ukrainian-Russian Demarcation Commission.

Earlier, Ukraine's Ambassador to the Russian Federation Volodymyr Yelchenko predicted that practical work on the demarcation of the Ukrainian-Russian border will begin in 2011.

The border demarcation agreement between Ukraine and Russia was signed May 17, 2010. The Ukrainian parliament ratified the document on July 8. It entered into force on August 3.

Demarcation of the existing boundaries to the east of the country is one of the conditions of the EU for granting to Ukraine visa-free regime and further European integration.
