Ukraine is marking the Day of Remembrance for Chornobyl Disaster Clean-Up Workers. A respective decree was signed by former Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko on November 10, 2006.
President Yanukovych, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov and Verkhovna Rada Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn laid flowers at the memorial "Warriors of Chornobyl" and the memorial mound "Heroes of Chernobyl". After that Viktor Yanukovych took part in a service for those the lost in the Chornobyl disaster at the Church of Lord's Entrance into Jerusalem (Church of Chernobyl).
The accident at the fourth nuclear reactor of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant occurred on April 26, 1986, and became known to the world as the first global environmental disaster. The Shelter facility was built over the reactor seven months after the disaster.
