Yulia Tymoshenko has said the forced dismantling of the tent city erected on Independence Square in Kyiv by entrepreneurs demonstrating against the tax code is a display of the current government’s blatant disregard for democratic governance.

"At 5 o’clock this morning the tent city that was the manifestation of civic freedom and resistance was taken down by law enforcement in a rude and cynical manner. This is an insult to civil society, an insult to democracy, and an insult to the people who spent days freezing on the Maidan and achieved their first victory, be it small, but a victory for all," Yulia Tymoshenko told journalists today during a meeting of the BYuT-Batkivshchyna faction.

She said yesterday’s so-called celebrations of the Verkhovna Rada’s passage of the new tax code don’t reflect the general mood among entrepreneurs. "The fireworks that went off yesterday over the Maidan to supposedly mark the president’s good deed weren’t set off by the entrepreneurs; this wasn’t a sign of their joy because they are surrounded by terror and pressure. These fireworks were set off by the government in their own honor," she added.
