In the nearest future Ukraine will speed up the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities rules in domestic legislation and will introduce European standards of life for people with disabilities, President Viktor Yanukovych said in a statement on the occasion of the International Day of Disabled Persons.
"I will personally supervise this important process, which will run simultaneously with providing proper living conditions and fulfillment of spiritual needs of all our fellow citizens.
I think that social rehabilitation of persons with disabilities, their maximum involvement in the multi-faceted life, is one of the national priorities," he said.
Yanukovych noted that particular attention should be paid to people with disabilities every day, not once a year. "I as president have set the task of breaking the system of the state's indifference towards the disabled," he said.
The head of state also noted the work of public organizations and the associations of disabled persons and thanked everyone who helps people with disabilities.
