President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych took part in plenary session of the Fourteenth of EU-Ukraine Summit, presidential press office reported.

In his opening remarks, the President stressed that the current EU - Ukraine Summit is special for its participants, as they are through profound reforms and transformations.

"It is special for Ukraine, as it is happening in the long-awaited political stability, consolidation of all branches of government, implementation of market transformations and strengthening of European values," Viktor Yanukovych said.

He also noted that the time is special for the EU too, because of its internal reform set out in the Lisbon Treaty.

Undoubtedly, Viktor Yanukovych stressed, it is not possible to say that reforms are absolutely painless and easy for Ukraine and the EU. Any progress takes time, and achieving positive results requires finding compromises and mutual concessions. "Such a pragmatic approach has emerged now out of our relations and I hope that we our mutual confidence will be growing with time," the President of Ukraine said.

Viktor Yanukovych also thanked European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and European Council President Herman Van Rompuy for today's frank and sincere discussion, held before the plenary session of the Summit.

"I feel friendliness toward Ukraine and toward me personally. I thank you. I look forward to the beginning of our work, and as always principled, sincere and meaningful conversation," he said.
