The total amount of the debt of the Ukrainian government for the use of illegal software (software) is now about USD 100 million. The sum was announced at a press conference dedicated to software piracy in Ukraine by Microsoft Ukraine CEO Dmytro Shymkiv, UKRINFORM reports.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Borys Kolesnikov at a meeting with Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer promised that the government in the next 5-6 months will legalize software that is used at government agencies.

According to a study conducted by IDS, the level of software piracy in Ukraine today is 85%.

Experts estimate that a 10% reduction over four years could provide USD 586 million for new economic activities, as well as 1,957 new jobs for IT workers and an additional USD 88 million of taxes until 2013.

If the level of software piracy in Ukraine for two years will be reduced by 10%, this according to a study may bring additional USD 755 million to GDP, plus USD 116 million to pay taxes.

At the same time, 61% of the specified additional GDP will remain in Ukraine.
