President Viktor Yanukovych expressed confidence that the Ukrainian language as a precious asset of the people will remain a consolidating force of the society. He said this in his congratulatory message to the compatriots on the Day of Ukrainian Writing and Language.
"The Ukrainian language is the soul of the nation, the greatest spiritual treasure that we inherited from our ancestors," the press service of the head of state reported citing the message.
It is deeply symbolic, Viktor Yanukovych said, that on the same day we honor the Venerable Nestor the Chronicler.
"Now we turn to look at our origins, we see a worthy of respect and honor path of development and strengthening of the Ukrainian language, from the immortal Lay of Igor's Warfare, Sermon on Law and Grace by Metropolitan Hilarion, Peresopnytsia Gospel to the language of our days," the President emphasized.
He noted that the Ukrainian people is a people of great history, great culture and great language. "Development of the Ukrainian language owes to geniuses like Hryhoriy Skovoroda, Ivan Kotliarevsky, Taras Shevchenko, Panteleimon Kulish, Ivan Franko, Lesia Ukrainka, as well as their followers Vasyl Stus, Lina Kostenko, Borys Oliynyk and many other of our outstanding contemporaries," the head of state said.
"Let the native word become our talisman for lifetime. Happiness to all, good, new advances in the name of Ukraine!" Viktor Yanukovych underscored.
