Prime Minister Mykola Azarov does not consider sufficient the level of salaries, pensions and social benefits in the public sphere, but argues that the government can not go the way of printing unsecured money, UKRINFORM reports.

Speaking on Friday at the celebrations on the occasion of the Social Worker Day, he noted that the government considers social sector a priority in its activities and will raise the level of welfare as economy develops.

Azarov said that the average salary in Ukraine is 2,400 UAH (1 USD - 7.92 UAH) and expressed confidence that in no one region it is lower than 1,900 UAH.

Earlier, the Prime Minister said that by the end of 2010 the average wage in this country may reach 2,700 UAH.

The Prime Minister also spoke about the troubling prospect of raising the retirement age.

"I stress, as life expectancy increases, a possible change in retirement age for certain categories of persons will be considered," he said adding that the issue would be discussed with the public first.
