Dear compatriots!

The local election in Ukraine is over. I congratulate all the participants of electoral process, both the candidates and the voters. I want to thank Ukrainian and international observers for their attention and advice. Your efforts help us building a democratic country.

In the election the people have elected both the experienced leaders and the new faces. This fusion of experience and initiative will encourage development of local government in Ukraine.

The introduction of single-member districts allowed electing leaders who know local issues and will assist in their resolution.

I recognize that the elections had technical flaws and were complex.

There were plenty of candidates for elective offices at all levels. It was not easy to organize the counting of several types of ballots.

I have given the instruction to start the work on changing our electoral legislation. We will cooperate with the international community and the best Ukrainian experts in the field.

My goal is to have effective and transparent electoral legislation. It must resolve all the issues of the election process, regardless of the government being elected – central or local.

Dear citizens of Ukraine!

Now is the time for all the elected officials, from members of the Parliament to representatives of local councils, to dismiss misconceptions and start working together.

I urge all to set aside narrow party interests and focus on working together in the name of the people of Ukraine.
