Should the ruling party succeed in falsifying the upcoming local
government elections, parliamentary elections will be scheduled for
March 27, 2011, predicts Batkivshchyna party leader Yulia Tymoshenko, the official site reported .
"If the ruling party decides that their election rigging techniques were successful, parliamentary elections will be held on March 27, 2011. They will do the same with regard to the parliamentary polls – introduce the same proportional system, treat the elites the same, use the administrative system to crush their opponents and the courts to remove anyone who can oppose and compete with them. This is a major test for the entire country," Yulia Tymoshenko said during a press conference today in Chernihiv.
She referred to three aspects the ruling party will consider in the local elections.
"First they will see if they can commit the level of fraud they are planning. This will be their first test."
The second, according to her, will be the results under the majoritarian system.
"In other words – will they be able to secure their candidates’ victories in the majoritarian constituencies with the help of the courts, administrative resource and public funds."
"They will see if voters can read the names of the parties next to the candidates’ names, whether or not they understand if the candidate supports the party’s ideas, or they will entice people with buckwheat and other goods, like in Kyiv. It will be important for them to see if their candidates win in the majoritarian districts in the Zakarpattia, Chernihiv, Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts. They will analyze everything and this will be their battlecard."
She believes the ruling party will try to intimidate local elites by offering them posts and "constructive cooperation."
"The governing party will look to see if the local councils are ready to become their slaves for a piece of the good life. Our hope lies in the local elites – public sector workers, representatives of the media and business, including small and medium business".
Warning that the ruling party’s experiment will be very dangerous for the country, she urged the public to use their vote to show the authorities what the people think of them.
