The Ukrainian authorities announced plans to liquidate state-owned and municipal print mass media within seven years, Yuriy Plaksiuk, chairman of the State Committee for Television and Radio Broadcasting, announced this on Wednesday at a conference entitled "Ensuring Media Pluralism in Ukraine", UKRINFORM reported.

The day before, according to him, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted a resolution on the draft law on the privatization of state and municipal print media. Plaksiuk noted that this is the first such law not only in Ukraine but also in Europe.

For today Ukraine counts about 672 state print media and they should be reformed, the official stressed. "But the state will give them the right to remain in their editorial offices, retain the property, and for seven years the government will be paying a subvention for their maintenance," Plaksiuk assured.
