Ukraine and France stand for enhancement of bilateral cooperation, President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych told journalists after the meeting with his French colleague, presidential press office reported.

“France is Ukraine’s key partner. At the bilateral level we address a broad scope of issues, including trade and economic relations,” the Head of state said.

Viktor Yanukovych underlined that Ukraine views France as a partner in our European integration. It implies, first and foremost, creation of a free trade area, visa-free travel, preparation of association agreement.

The President considers that upcoming Ukraine-EU Summit demands thorough preparation along with major partners in the European Union, i.e. the countries which play a leading role in its policy.

“We appreciate our relations with France, and we will enhance them. We agreed with President Sarkozy that the enhancement of our relations will start off by signing the Roadmap, which we will implement and expand,” Viktor Yanukovych emphasized.

The Roadmap of Ukrainian-French Relations for 2011-2012 and the Governmental Agreement on mutual assistance and cooperation in civil protection of the population was signed in the presence of President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and President of the French Republic Nicolas Sarkozy.
