Prime Minister Mykola Azarov considers Ukraine needs to restore irrigation farming. The Head of the Government said this at a meeting on socio-economic development of Odesa region, Cabinet's press office reported.

Azarov raised the issue of food self-sufficiency of regions. On the way to the meeting, the Prime Minister of Ukraine made a unplanned stop at the supermarket, went to a grocery department, studied the prices and said that they absolutely do not meet the objective situation and the cost of basic food products: "We can not be satisfied with the current situation, when the harvest is sufficient for all parameters, but prices are rising. This is not normal, is not civilized business.

Why can potatoes grow in Egypt and in the Odessa region can not? Why have Odessa’s inhabitants to overpay for this product? What prevents you to restore irrigation farming and gather guaranteed agricultural crops that should be every day on the table of our citizens. Create a program, contact the Government and we will implement it", emphasized Azarov.

Mykola Azarov ordered to prepare a five-year regional agricultural development program and stressed that it should, first of all, involve investment opportunities of the region, lending ability of local financial institutions and only then - state support. "We will use such an approach to every region", the PM emphasised
