Ukraine and Kazakhstan have agreed to increase the transit of Kazakh oil through Ukraine by 8 million tons, President Viktor Yanukovych said at his joint press conference with President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev.

"We agreed that we would increase the transit of oil through Ukraine by 8 million tons, some of which can be used by Ukrainian refineries under a separate agreement," Viktor Yanukovych said.

In turn, President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev also made positive remarks about the negotiations on energy issues.

"Before Viktor Yanukovych stepped in, transportation of Kazakh oil through Ukraine has been suspended. Now, the restrictions are lifted and transportation is restored," Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

It was also agreed that Ukraine together with Russia and Kazakhstan will produce nuclear fuel. "We agreed that Ukraine will participate in the development of nuclear fuel manufacturing base. We can speak of a trilateral agreement today that Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine will be taking part in this project with a share of 33% each. It is very beneficial for our countries," Viktor Yanukovych stressed.
