Ukraine will remain a reliable gas transit partner, President Viktor Yanukovych said in Brussels at his joint press conference with President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso, presidential press office reported.

"Ukraine has to, or is "fated" today to fulfill her obligations to the EU and Russia as a transit country in terms of stability and reliability of the gas transportation system. And we always will," Viktor Yanukovych stressed.

The President said those unfortunate incidents regarding gas transit that occurred in the past would not repeat. "This will never happen in the history of Ukraine’s relations with the EU and Russia," he said.

Viktor Yanukovych noted that he has reached agreement with Jose Manuel Barroso to start joint work on reconstruction of Ukraine's gas transportation system. "We intend to invite partners from other countries, in addition to Russia, and ensure transparency of the work of Ukraine’s gas transportation system by adding these countries’ representatives to its management," Viktor Yanukovych said.

The President repeated that Ukraine is eager to carry out all its international obligations to the maximum.
