Vitali Klitschko will defend his WBC heavyweight title against Shannon Briggs of the United States in October. Klitschko's management says the fight will take place in Hamburg on October 16.
"I am thrilled that I am finally going to box again in Hamburg. Briggs is a very strong challenger. I'm going to go through an intense training period to prepare for Briggs with my trainer Fritz Sdunek. He has more professional fights than me and he is one of the hardest punchers [at heavyweight]," Vitaliy Klychko said.
Shannon Briggs, 38, said he had signed a deal for Klychko bout late in July, but this had not been officially proved. The American vowed to pension Klitschko off.
