The
Government is taking all possible measures to enhance fire safety during the dry
season, Senior Vice Prime Minister Andriy Klyuev said at the meeting
of the Government, Cabinet's press office reported.
Klyuyev noted amid hot weather it was decided on the need to
strengthen measures to prevent possible fires in the forests. Thus, ministries,
departments and local executive authorities were instructed
to enter fire-prevention measures.
However,
according to the First Vice PM, despite the preventive measures,
and existing restrictions on visits to forests throughout the territory of
Ukraine, on July 28 in the two areas (Severodonetsk
and Novoaydarsk) of Luhansk
region the forest were in fire that within a few hours covered an area more
than 200 hectares. "Only through a comprehensive engagement and
well-coordinated actions of ground and air forces, it was possible to extinguish
it less than in one day," Klyuyev said and added that the threat of fire remains.
According
to him, on behalf of the President
of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, the Cabinet of Ministers set
up operational headquarters for coordination between central and regional executive authorities in case
of emergency; similar headquarters are established in all the regions.
Andriy Klyuyev also noted that in case of fire suppression the
forces available and the technical means of the Ministry of Emergency
Situations, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of
Agrarian Policy, State Border Service, State Timber Enterprise, the Council of
Ministers of Crimea and local authorities are to be involved in.
However,
according to First Vice Prime Minister, the Ministry of Defense
is to pay special attention to daily monitoring in
warehouses of ammunition and weapons: "We have no right for a recurrence
of the situation that occurred in previous years in Novobohdanivka
and Lozova towns.
