Ukraine will continue developing relations with NATO, but the membership issue is removed from the agenda. Speaking at the opening of the 11th interagency meeting on coordination of executive bodies' efforts in the sphere of external relations Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Kostiantyn Hryshchenko said that this approach is most of all consistent with the present state of affairs.

According to Hryshchenko, the idea of Ukrainian membership in NATO is currently not supported by the majority of the Ukrainians, and has a destructive effect on the effectiveness of foreign policy.

The Minister also raised the question of Ukraine's participation in international organizations. According to him, international organizations provide tremendous opportunities for the use of the best practices and resources to address the priorities of this country. He pointed to "a formal approach of some agencies to participation in the activities of international organizations." Figuratively speaking, in this case Ukraine pays contributions but does not receive dividends, he said.
