The so-called audit of the work of Yulia Tymoshenko’s government
commissioned by the Yanukovych-Azarov government is custom-ordered and
aimed at discrediting the opposition forces and closing down their
campaign, claims Hryhoriy Nemyria, the deputy head of Batkivshchyna.
"This is a contracted audit and a tool for bullying and persecuting Yanukovych’s political opponents. Yanukovych and Azarov are using money from the budget, the people’s money, Ukrainian taxpayers’ money, to pay for the services of lobbyists so that they can then potentially export this dirty campaign of intimidation and persecution against the opposition, and Yulia Tymoshenko in particular, and to export this campaign abroad, including to the US," Hryhoriy Nemyria said during a briefing, BYuT press office reports.
Hryhoriy Nemyria underscored that Mykola Azarov’s government selected the firm Trout Cacheris – which identifies itself as a law firm in Washington that specializes in litigation - to perform the international audit.
According to him, Trout Cacheris is not an audit firm. "The company specializes in litigation. There is nobody on their staff that specializes in tax or budget consulting. Therefore, this company can not provide an auditor’s conclusion. This company has no international reputation with audits," he noted.
Hryhoriy Nemyria reported that the opposition had submitted an official request to the US Embassy in Kyiv for detailed information about Trout Cacheris. "We received the response that Trout Cacheris is not an audit company," he added.
He also reported that Trout Cacheris plans to hire subcontractors with auditing experience. "The company announced that they will subcontract two other firms: Akin Gump – a lobbying and PR firm, which has powerful clients in Russia; and Kroll, which also doesn’t specialize in international audit."
"And so there you have it - three companies that are allegedly planning to allegedly conduct an allegedly objective international audit."
