Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has praised the results of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's official visit to Kyiv on May 17-18.

"The results of the visit were expected, because they were sufficiently prepared owing to an intensive interstate and intergovernmental dialog, which restored normal good-neighborly and mutually beneficial relations between Ukraine and Russia," he said at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on Wednesday, UKRINFORM reported.

Azarov noted that due to the maintenance of contacts between Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and Medvedev, the foundation had been created for a gradual restoration of ties in all spheres of life, the deepening of economic, scientific and humanitarian cooperation, as well as the restoration of trust between the leadership of the countries and their peoples.

The prime minister said that one of the main documents signed during the Russian president's visit was an agreement on the demarcation of the Russian-Ukrainian state land border. Azarov recalled that negotiations on this matter had lasted over ten years. "This agreement clearly indicates that we are able to solve large-scale long-term problems on the basis of mutual understanding, taking into account the national interests of the sides. This is a very important experience," he said.
