Opposition leader Yulia Tymoshenko believes changes need to be made to Ukrainian legislation governing the way the Central Election Commission (CEC) and all courts are formed so that the president can’t influence them.

"Today's events show that we need urgently to change all the rules and procedures of how the Constitutional Court, all courts and the CEC are formed," Yulia Tymoshenko said during a briefing, according to the official website.

In her opinion, this is necessary in order to ensure the independence of the judiciary and the CEC from the will of the president. "Because when the president issues a decree appointing judges to the Constitutional Court, then he rapes them or threatens them with dismissal," explained the leader of the opposition.

"I think we need to go back to the changes in the Constitution and the law on the Constitutional Court whereby the Constitutional Court is formed on a non-political basis. Our political force will propose such changes," said Yulia Tymoshenko.
