Last weekend Christians of the world, including authorities and politicians of Ukraine, celebrated Easter.

President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych, speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn, prime minister Mykola Azarov and head of President’s Administration Serhiy Levochkin attended service at Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra.

Leader of United Opposition Yulia Tymoshenko attended Easter services at churches of different denominations.

In particular, Yulia Tymoshenko began Easter night at St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral (Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate) where the service was being conducted by Patriarch of Kyiv and all Rus-Ukraine Filaret, and took part in the sacred procession around the cathedral.

She also visited the service at the Church of St. Basil the Great (Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church).

In St. Andrew’s Church in Kyiv, which belongs to the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church, Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine Mefodiy blessed Yulia Tymoshenko so that she may further serve the people of Ukraine and wished her Easter joy and the Lord’s support in all her efforts.

Yulia Tymoshenko also participated in the service at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra (Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate).

It is worth mentioning that former president Viktor Yushchenko and former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko met at the service in St. Volodymyr’s Cathedral. But despite their political distractions, they were standing in front of each other clenching teeth, but did not violate the tradition of the Holy Day.
