Hanna Herman, deputy head of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine stated that Viktor Yanukovych does not reject his program principles of protecting the Russian language in Ukraine.

"The matter concerns the implementation of the European Charter of Regional Languages and Languages of Minorities, and that all efforts of the President and parliamentary faction, which supports him, will be aimed at putting this Charter into practice," she pointed out.

Ukrainian language remains official in Ukraine although the "distortions" in language policy made by former government brought about humiliation and infringement of rights of both Russian citizens and representatives of other nationalities in Ukraine, President Viktor Yanukovych said at his meeting with Taras Shevchenko National Prize winners.

"All these thing must be corrected and reflected in language policy, including in the process of implementing the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages", he confirmed his intentions to solve the language issue.
