A swearing-in ceremony of Ukraine's new president is set for February 25. A total of 238 MPs have voted for the relevant resolution.

The resolution hereby amended the Verkhovna Rada's time-table with a plenary morning session to be held on February 25, 2010 at 10.00 a.m.

Verkhovna Rada Speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn has authored the resolution.

According to the official result of Ukraine's presidential election announced by the Central Election Commission on Sunday, February 14, Regions Party leader Viktor Yanukovych was declared the winner of the run-off presidential election. He garnered 48.95% of the vote to 45.47% for Tymoshenko.

Tymoshenko said in a televised address on February 13 that she had decided to challenge the result of the election in the courts, UKRINFORM reported.

During its session the Ukrainian parliament also has canceled its previous resolution dated October 20, 2009 which had set local election for May 30, 2010.

The Verkhovna Rada Committee on Nation-Building and Local Self-Government is ordered to immediately table in a bill changing the electoral system in local election.

The parliamentarians reasoned their decision to cancel the May 30 election by absence of the 2010 budget, and hence, the funds for holding the election.

The Bloc of Yulia Tymoshenko (BYuT) said they will go to the Constitutional Court to contest this decision. BYuT also claims the cancellation of local election is a part of the Party of Region's plan to hold local and early parliamentary election simultaneously.
