Candidate for the Ukrainian presidency and Regions Party leader Viktor Yanukovych will not participate in a televised presidential election debate with current Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, Regions Party MP Anna Herman said at a press conference in Kyiv on Monday, Interfax-Ukraine reported.

She said that "Tymoshenko ordered a lot of advertisements stipulating that the television debate with Yanukovych will take place today, on February 1."

"We state once again, earnestly, that Yanukovych won't take part in the championship of lies arranged by Tymoshenko, as he has a great deal of work to do," Herman said.

She said that a similar statement by the premier was "another fraud," as was her statement that Sergiy Tigipko, who came third in the first round of the country's presidential election, had accepted Tymoshenko's offer to head the Ukrainian government if she wins the election.
