The head of Yulia Tymoshenko’s campaign headquarters, First Vice Prime
Minister Oleksandr Turchynov, claims that the majority in the Central
Election Commission supporting the Party of Regions blocked the
decision to register 2,000 observers from the OSCE in order to cover up
possible fraud during the presidential elections.
"Another very dangerous event took place yesterday -the majority in
the CEC blocked the registration of close to 2,000 OSCE observers. It’s
understood why they didn’t let them be registered - to cover up ways
they’re planning to falsify the vote," he told journalists today in
Kyiv.
The Central Election Commission hasn't registered 2,011 foreign
observers from Georgia because the majority of CEC members, who are
controlled by the Party of Regions, refused to vote for the resolution
on their registration.
The head of the parliamentary foreign affairs committee and head of
the Verkhovna Rada delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Oleh
Bilorus claims that this step by the CEC can lead to an "unprecedented
international scandal" because it violates international standards,
thus jeopardizing good relations between Ukraine and Georgia.
