Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko announced that the social protection of citizens is the priority of her government’s activity, Tymoshenko's website reported.
"As long as I’m in power or in opposition, I will never allow the
retirement age to be increased and will never reduce pension wages as
many European countries have done during the crisis," said
YuliaTymoshenko during a working visit to Vinnytsia oblast.
According to the Prime Minister, she’ll continue to ignore
'recommendations' to cut expenses on the back of increasing the
retirement age and cutting pensions. "I never in my life will allow
this," she assured.
Yulia Tymoshenko has more than once categorically stood against
initiatives to raise the retirement age and considers any attempts to
do this a provocation. "Taking into account the number of people
approaching the retirement age in the country and the life expectancy
in Ukraine, I won’t allow the retirement age to be increased," she has
said.
Deputies from the Party of Regions launched an initiative in the middle of December 2009 to raise the retirement age.
