President Viktor Yushchenko stands against the use of gold reserves to cover operating expenses of the budget, he said in an interview in the Crimea, president's press office reported.

According to the President, the Government has no "moral right to reach for the national reserves of the country”. "National Bank does not buy gas, the Government does. Why Tymoshenko cannot pay for gas consumption? This policy of the Prime Minister leads to collapse", he said.

The President reminded that primary duty of the Government is to approve the 2010 budget, which would provide financing of pensions, wages of budgetary workers, and solve the issue of payment for gas supplies.
