45% of Ukrainian population are ready to vote for the frontrunners of the current presidential race, Viktor Yanukovych and Yulia Tymoshenko, according to UKRINFORM.

A month before the 2004 polls, 75% of the population were ready to support the election race leaders. These figures were made public at Monday's press conference on political challenges of 2009 by Oleksandr Paliy, expert with the External Policy Institute to the Diplomatic Academy of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Ukraine.

In his opinion, the situation owes to the fact that the majority of the current presidential candidates are holding “money” campaigns.

Paliy pointed out that the allies of many political leaders adhere to purely mercantile principles, when they have certain material benefits for their support, and desert to another camp as soon as their leader leavers the field. There is also a great dependence of the current presidential candidates on business ties, which may be broken with they transfer to opposition, the expert says.

The Voting Day in January 17, 2010.
