The Cabinet of Ministers opposes raising the retirement age in Ukraine, according to Tymoshenko's official web-site.
"The Tymoshenko government is against such initiatives and will
never support them," stressed Lyudmyla Denisova, the Minister of Labor
and Social Policy.
She thinks the initiative has something to do with Party of Regions
leader Viktor Yanukovych and current President Viktor Yushchenko.
"Because they have already reached that age and they must continue
their stay in these prosperous posts," Lyudmyla Denisova said.
"We will not support an increase in the retirement age and will
work on ensuring that our citizens get their increased pension on time
and that way improve their quality of life," the Minister added.
Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko has said that she is categorically opposed to raising the retirement age.
The initiative to increase the retirement age was voiced by Party of Regions deputy Mykhailo Papiyev on Wednesday, December 16.
