President Viktor Yushchenko stressed that his policy’s priority is achieving Ukraine's accession to the European Union and NATO, he said at the Ukrainian Intellectuals Congress in Pereyaslav-Khmelnytsky, Kyiv region.

The process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration requires first of all a block of reforms in our state, said Victor Yushchenko. However, he said in recent years, such reform has not been made, particularly those in economy of the country. He stressed that the Government has not conducted urgent reforms because they would not generate any political bonuses. "Reforms should be done, although perhaps they are not promising any profit to politicians", said Yushchenko.

In his speech the President also drew attention to the importance of continuing the democratic path, which Ukraine has been following over the past five years: "Ukraine is unthinkable in the future as a sovereign state if we are not a democracy", he said.
