President Viktor Yushchenko believes that presidential elections of
2010 will be fair and democratic, he said today at joint press
conference with the President of the European Council, Prime Minister
of Sweden Fredrik Reinfeldt and the European Commission President Jose
Manuel Barroso after the plenary meeting of the XIII Summit Ukraine -
EU..
"I have explained my colleagues that the election
campaign is held democratically and in accordance with the law. I have
told that in both Ukraine's political forces and society there is no
sign of confrontation or aggression that have been there a few years
ago”, he said, acording to the president's press office.
Victor Yushchenko said Ukrainian society has
become more tolerant. "I think this is the evidence of our
Europeanness", he said.
President Yushchenko stressed that
recent years have shown the existence of democratic principles of
government in Ukraine. "Five years ago this country was unable to
conduct fair elections. In four years Ukraine has seen the progress
that first of all enables ensuring political stability ", he said.
