The agenda of XIII Summit EU-Ukraine shows that the EU sees Ukraine as a strategic partner in solving the most pressing issues of global and regional scale, said President Viktor Yushchenko in his opening speech at the plenary session of the Summit in Kiev.

"Ukraine’s European integration aspirations will undoubtedly remain unchanged despite any internal problems", he assured.

According to the President, Ukraine’s EU membership through signature and implementation of the Association Agreement has great political significance, serving the axis for achieving internal consensus on the reforms necessary for the country.

"We understand that today a lot depends on how quickly and efficiently Ukraine adapts its infrastructure, agriculture, energy, legislation to the European Union standards", said the President.

At the same time, he said, Ukraine would like to see that the EU understanding how big the responsibility of the sides is in ensuring the Association Agreement was kind of an example for other countries in the region - the neighbors of Ukraine.
