On the occasion of celebration of the 18th anniversary of the Armed Forces of Ukraine President Viktor Yushchenko presented the Battle Banner to the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade. The ceremony was held in Vasylkiv, Kyiv region, where the military unit is deployed.
Congratulating soldiers and officers of the brigade on the event, the
President expressed belief that it marks continuous heredity of
Ukrainian military prowess - from Kyivan Rus princes and victories of
Zaporizhzhyan Cossacks to heroic deeds of World War II soldiers.
"We have brilliant military history, which formed the basis for
eternal tradition that today is developing and improved. We have much
to protect ", said Yushchenko.
He expressed confidence that strong national army is necessary for the existence of strong independent state.
The President stressed that he would continue to defend interests of the Ukrainian army firmly and confidently.
Yushchenko also told the press that soon the Prosecutor General of Ukraine would make a statement on the
results of translation of Mykola Melnychenko’s tapes’ transcripts
examination.
"I think soon we will hear the announcement on the subject as it is
exclusively the competence of the Prosecutor General", said Yushchenko.
According to him, the examination has been
"extremely constructive and gives investigators information to bring
the case closer to its conclusion”.
